Google announced on Thursday the end of Android Nougat Beta Program. Google will now focus on its latest operating system, Android O. The Android O Beta Program is expected to arrive later this month with its newest features.

The end of Android Nougat Beta Program is significant because there will be no more final version of Android Nougat to users and software updates associated with the OS anymore. Instead, users need to wait for the next update of Android OS.

In March, Google also revealed in a video the latest and new features of Android O.

Users can Limit Location Data Availability

An application can track the data indefinitely if it is granted the permission the first time in the current Android Nougat-based setup. For Android O, the applications are capable of tracking the data of users for a few hours at the maximum.

Autofill APIs:

The upcoming Android O will have a new autofill feature, users can now enter the username and password into the application more easily.

Picture-in-picture mode:

This new feature allows users to multitask even when they are active by minimizing tabs. Like for example, if there is a minimized tab playing a video from YouTube, the video will remain to play at the bottom of the screen.

Multi-display support:

Users can now work on the device even if it is mirrored to another one.

Prioritized Notifications:

The notifications can now be prioritized, rather than being available in order of time.

The second Android O Developer Preview is expected to launch at Google I/O this coming May 17-19. Google is also expected to launch 2 beta versions of Android O before September. After that, the official release of the OS will arrive in October, alongside the Google Pixel 2.

As of the moment, the meaning of 'O' is unknown, though some assume it stands for Android Oreo based on Google's preference of naming Android updates after desserts.
