Google Nexus 6P News and Updates: Latest Android Security Patch Coming to Nexus 6P This Week

Vodafone will start on rolling out the latest Android security patch to the Google Nexus 6P on March 7, Tuesday. The said update will be 39MB in size and with a build number NF26T.

Three-Phase Roll Out

Vodafone will be releasing the Android security patch in three phases. In the first phase, 10,000 Google Nexus 6P phones will be selected at random and will receive the patch until March 10. The 10% left of the remaining Nexus 6P phones will be receiving the patch the following 10 days.

GSM Arena details that those Nexus 6P phones that have not received the latest Android security patch will be getting it from March 20. More so, starting March 7, other gadgets that are under Google will directly start getting the said patch as well for this month.

This implies that those Nexus 6P users whose phones that run on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS could expect the Android security patch for March. However, Nougat 6P phones that currently run the Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS and are part of the beta program will not be part of the update. Nashville Chatter Class explains that it so since the current Nougat version is still being tested.

OTA Notification

The Nexus 6P phones that would be randomly selected to have the latest Android security update within the first batch of roll out will be informed via an over-the-air notification. Owners whose phones which would not be picked in the initial random selection can do a manual check and see if the files are ready to download on their phones.

To do such manually, Nexus 6P owners of those Nexus 6P phones can go to Settings --> About Device --> System updates. From there, they would know if the latest Android security update is ready. If it is not, owners are advised to wait for it instead of regularly checking it. After all, they would receive the OTA notification once it's ready. Accordingly, Nexus 5X, Pixel C tablet and the 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL phones are next in line to receive the updates.
