Google has announced that it will release an incremental update for the Android Nougat operating system. The update, which will be the Android 7.1.2, will reportedly focus on minor bug fixes and refinements as well as some optimizations, carrier and user enhancements.

Although the final build for the Android 7.1.2 will not be available for use for the next couple of months, its public beta is reportedly available on the Android developer website.

Android 7.1.2 beta supported devices

The aforementioned Android firmware beta is reportedly only compatible with Nexus and Google Pixel devices and does not include any third-party modifications. Fortunately, the Google Pixel phone will have no issues when upgrading to the new firmware. However, for Nexus users, only limited Nexus devices are supported which are the Nexus 5X, 6P, and Nexus Player. The Android 7.1.2 supports older Nexus devices as well such as Nexus 6 and 9.

The beta version of the latest firmware is reportedly available for download via the Android Beta Program as of the moment. Only those who are subscribed to the said program will be able to update to the latest beta firmware from Android. Users who want to join the beta testing program have to head to the android.com/beta website to register first. Once users have registered, they will reportedly receive over-the-air notifications on upcoming beta firmware releases, according to The Bitbag.

Android 7.1.2 beta download and installation

There is another way to download the beta firmware, especially for those who do not wish to wait for the OTA notification. Users can download the firmware image from the Android Developer Preview website, and then choose the Android image for their respective device. However, one should note that manually installing the said Android firmware requires prior knowledge of the procedure since any misstep along the installation process may apparently corrupt the main OS and can make the device totally useless.

It is advisable to back-up your device before the installation and proceed only once the firmware image has been completely downloaded. To properly execute this installation process, here is the link for a guide.
