The highly anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update is now rolling out to Samsung S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. Users in Europe and China have already received the update with the United States and other regions expected to follow soon. It appears that the previously reported Jan. 17 release date was accurate after all.

Rumors that Samsung has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge circulated online last week. It was said to have been released to select devices, preceding an imminent full rollout to all.

However, the Android 7.0 update, which previously rolled out to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, has been stopped in China and replaced with a new beta. The Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Note 5 are reportedly next in line for the Android Nougat software update, but the sudden halt brought a surprise to users. This could have been just an error. It has been confirmed that the regular update is now being released in several territories, including China. It should be noted that all regions are receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat and not the Android 7.1.1 version.

The Android Nougat will bring new features to devices, fix bugs and issues, and improve overall performance. It is said to bring a tweaked user interface with instant control toggles and space-efficient notifications. It comes with a quick switch and multi-window for excellent multitasking. There is a quick reply feature and notification bundling for a less cluttered control panel shade.

Despite the recent Note 7 debacle, Samsung remains the top manufacturer and seller of Android smartphones in the world. According to YouMobile, the list of confirmed devices which will get the Android 7 Nougat update include the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 5 and even the Galaxy Note 7.
