New updates for "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" will have no cross-platform and assist features, as well as giving more emphasis on the game's story.

It seems that Capcom will be removing some game features for "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" as the sequel will not have any cross-platform gameplay due to the publisher's problems over the Capcom Fighting Network.

Capcom producer Mike Evans told VG 24/7 that when "Street Fighter 5" shipped with cross-platform matchmaking, there was buzz in the community that "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" would get the same treatment, but they have trouble operating the CFN in the game and decided not to incorporate cross-platform gameplay for a better gaming experience with the fans.

Aside from the cross-platform gameplay, Capcom will also removed the assist feature in "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite," something that the franchise was known for.

Many believe that the removal of assists is a dumbing down of the game for viewer's sake, as well as to increase accessibility for new players, but Capcom insists that Infinite will have just as much depth as before.

Associate producer Peter ‘combofiend’ Rosas explained that picking their two favorite characters or three favorite characters and utilizing a strategy the player has created that is signature to them. There is no shortage of that in "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite."

What the players are doing is picking two characters and then picking an infinity stone, then there is six of them. Two people playing the same two characters with a different infinity stone will have a completely different strategy.

Combofiend believes that the new tag out mechanics, which allow players to tap tag out at any time and take over, will give players even more room to express themselves in their combos than before. He even goes so far as to call the previous systems limiting, as each character only has a specific purpose.

Lastly, Capcom will give more emphasis on "Marvel vs. Capom: Infinite's" story as Evans told Eurogamer that the goal is to create something “unique and original” for the sequel.

The setting of "Marvel vs Capcom Infinite" allows Capcom to offer a more detailed perspective, explaining why Ultron and Sigma have unified and why heroes of different worlds must come together to eliminate the threat. Capcom is also placing emphases on the visual appeal. The sequel is powered by Unreal Engine 4, which means that players will get a “more cinematic direction” when it comes to the graphical experience.

The notion of moving away from preceding installments in the series also convinced Capcom to forego calling it “Marvel vs Capcom 4” as the “Infinite” extension was a better fit to the overall goals.

"Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" will launch on Sept. 19 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms
