Ahead of this, Imagination Technologies has announced its next-gen GPU architecture - PowerVR Furian. PowerVR Furian or Series8XT promises remarkable improvements in power efficiency and graphics performance that will benefit upcoming iPhones.

Compared to Series7XT Plus GPU, Furian will offer a 70-90 percent improvement in actual-world gaming performance by density, 80 percent better fill rate, and 35 percent better shader performance.

With lower consumption of power, an iPhone with PowerVR Furian architecture can have a long-lasting battery life for graphics-related work. PowerVR Furian architecture supports 4K graphics.

The company's graphics chip in the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 is a custom-designed version of the Series7XT Plus. Several previous iPhone models are based on PowerVR Rogue architecture. Reports indicate that forthcoming iPhone models will use some of the PowerVR Furian architecture.

However, the architecture may not power the iPhone 8 this year. According to the company, Furian-based devices may not arrive till the end of next year at the earliest.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the Cupertino-based company will unveil three new models in March. This includes an updated versions of the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 and an updated iPhone SE with 128GB of storage.

Some of the rumored features of the upcoming Apple smartphone include wireless charging, enhanced water resistance, virtual home button, support for the Apple Pencil, USB-Connectivity, glass and stainless steel body, and curved, edge-to-edge OLED display.

The device is expected to cost over $1000, BGR reported.

The company is working on a technology that will allow the iPhone to support wireless charging, according to Reuters. Apple joined the Wireless Power Consortium in February.  According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, all new iPhone devices will feature wireless charging.
