Capcom brought back the Resident Evil franchise with "Resident Evil 7" to receive raving reviews from fans. As gamers race to the Baker house to survive from its crazy inhabitants, many wonder why the Baker family members have perfect white teeth in spite of their disgusting living conditions. In an interview, Resident Evil series producer Masachika Kawata explained that Capcom used a method called photogrammetry to create the Bakers of "Resident Evil 7."

The photogrammetry technique uses 3D scanning technology of real-life models and applies a photorealistic effect to the graphics such as that on the Bakers. Photogrammetry detects the locations of certain subject points and approximates their locations in 3D space. "I guess we can thank the actors we utilized for having great teeth!" Kawata said. The photogrammetry apparently replicated the models' teeth into the Baker family members.

The Baker family element is one of the most frightening aspects of "Resident Evil 7." The game has plenty of grotesque and disturbing images with plenty of gore and decay. Whenever Marguerite or Jack Baker faces the players with their perfect white teeth, it comes as a stark contrast to the entire game design. It is even scarier for players using the Sony PlayStation VR.

Over three million copies of "Resident Evil 7" have been shipped in the first three weeks. This figure does not take into account how many were purchased. While it is a significant amount, the game was not able to meet the 4.5 million sold copies milestone of "Resident Evil 6" during its launch week. However, "Resident Evil 7" does not have a multiplayer component and the budget is lower than its predecessor's. Moreover, digital sales have not been taken into account so Capcom's target sales of four million copies may even be surpassed by the end of March.
