"Death Stranding" creator Hideo Kojima shares what he believes is the perfect formula to make horror games effective at scaring people. Kojima was previously involved in one of the scariest next-generation game released on consoles, which is "P.T."

Although "P.T." never materialized as a full game, it still scared dozens of players out of their wits. In an interview with IGN, Kojima revealed how he can make a horror game so effective with its scares.

The "Death Stranding" creator explained that showing something "slightly out of the ordinary" is the most effective horror element. Kojima mentions that upon seeing something "slightly off" and "unusual", this confuses the mind of the viewer.

This in turn, creates a state of unease for the viewer which further magnifies their "unnerving" experience. In addition, Kojima cites the fear of the unknown as a reference.

"When there's no information available for something, it's more frightening", Kojima added. The "Death Stranding" creator even cited the famous xenomorph from "Alien" as a perfect example.

He explains that In the original "Alien" film, viewers don't get to see the xenomorph right away. Instead, the viewers are treated with glimpses of the threat without knowing what it actually is.

This creates that tension and fear of the unknown. The uncertainty of what might happen next amplifies the film's horror element. Given that this approach is translated into horror games, Kojima believes this makes the game more effective than traditional horror scares.

However, don't expect the "Death Stranding" creator to be making any horror games any time soon. Kojima explains that he is the type of person who gets "scared very easily."

The Kojima Productions head doesn't want to make new horror games because doing so has the tendency of giving him bad dreams. While horror games don't seem to be in Kojima's to-do list, he doesn't seem to be revealing more information about "Death Stranding" either.

According to Gamespot, the "Death Stranding" creator hinted that his upcoming game is unlike anything fans have played before. We'll have to wait and see how "Death Stranding" actually plays to find out what Kojima means by that.
