Apple has rolled out an update for the MacOS Sierra to address several issues with MacBook Pro computers, including battery life concerns and the graphics problems.

Issues with Battery

Apple has removed the "battery time remaining" display from the pull-down menu on the Mac. This is said to be the most visible change in the update. The company reportedly made the move because the icon presented an inaccurate representation of how much battery life is left.

MacOS users have taken to Apple's support communities and forums like Reddit to discuss battery issues with the MacBook Pro. While some users have reported they are only getting a battery life of three to six hours, many relying on the estimated battery life feature of Mac were shown surprising figures.

Apple's move to completely remove the feature is only a temporary solution to the problem to silence the numerous complaints from its users. The discrepancy could be due to some factors including the dynamic power state of the new Intel CPUs, iCloud photo syncing, and Spotlight search's indexing of files.

Issues with Graphics

According to MacRumors earlier this month, some users reported "flickering, full-screen checkerboard patterns, screen tearing, and other visual artifacts" on their Macs. While people speculated that the graphics issue was hardware related, it was addressed with a software fix.

iCloud confusion

The other change in the Sierra update is in iCloud syncing. When a user turns on iCloud syncing after it has been enabled on a different Mac, Sierra creates a new folder on iCloud containing the Desktop and Documents files. It moves files from the Desktop off to this new location, which looks to the end user as if the files just disappeared from the desktop.

Another point of confusion was that Sierra has a feature that deletes files as needed to free up local disk space after they have already been backed up to iCloud. The messaging and the timing around Optimized Storage alerts have also been fixed with the update.

While the above three are the main changes to the MacOS arriving in the update, there are many other tweaks that improve the OS altogether.
