Mercedes-Benz has introduced the 2017 E-Class sedan at the 2016 North American International Auto (NAIA) Show, offering a huge push to add all manner of new technology.

The E-class car has autonomous-driving capabilities that let car go farther on its own before the driver takes over and stay on track on curvier roads. It is the company's middle-of-the-road sedan that slots between the high-volume C and the flagship S. In addition, it is one of the last cars in Mercedes' lineup to get the company's newest design language — and appears like a scaled-down S-Class.

The mid-size Mercedes employs dual front-facing cameras to create a 3D image map of hazards up to 55 yards in front. It has a turbocharged four-cylinder, 241 hp gasoline engine, designated the E300. Following models will include a turbo six, a V8, a plug-in hybrid, and a 42 mpg (highway) diesel.

The E-Class' primary technology lies in its new, optional Drive Pilot system. Drive Pilot’s adaptive cruise control (Distronic) and Steering Pilot (lane keep assist) track the car in front at speeds up to 130 mph and can stay lane-centered at up to 81 mph. German automobile manufacturer says the car can track adjacent vehicles and deal with obscured (on one side) lane markings, according to Extreme Tech. 

The interior is essentially an S-Class from the mid-point up, and a C-Class from the mid-point down. Mercedes' design both looks and feels supremely comfortable, The Verge reported. 

In terms of tech, it has a touch-sensitive set of controls on the steering wheel, allowing the driver to control the user interface using swipe motions. The car incorporates a pair of 12.3 inch LCD screens and drivers can configure the ambient lighting to display 64 different colors, and opting for the right trim level will give them two massive screens that cover both infotainment and gauge duties. The sound system incorporates 23 Burmester 3D surround sound speakers.

As compared to its predecessor, the new E-Class is 1.7 inches longer and the overall length of the car now stands at 193.8 inches. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class also flaunts an extended wheelbase, which measures at 115.7 inches and is 2.6 inches longer when compared than as compared to its predecessor.

The base 2017 E-Class sedan is priced at $55,000 and up.
