Fresh speculations suggest that the Microsoft Surface Phone would be featuring Snapdragon 830 and 8 GB of RAM.

Recently, Lenovo unleashed the ZUK Z2 Pro smartphone that features Snapdragon 820 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. Speculations are rife that the upcoming flagship smartphones will be powered by Snapdragon 830 that will support more amount of RAM.

Microsoft had unveiled its flagship smartphones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones in October 2015. In spite of releasing flagship phones with high-end specs, their sales have not helped in generating good revenue for the company. Hence, the company is speculated to launch BOGO (buy-on-get-one-free) offer that will let Lumia 950 XL buyers to get Lumia 950 for free.

Rumors have it that Microsoft may kill its Lumia lineup to introduce a new series of Surface branded smartphones. Its Surface line of tablets and 2-in-1 devices are highly popular. Hence, it is expected to launch Surface branded in 2017. Speculations are rife that it will be powered by Snapdragon 830 chipset and 8 GB of RAM, Forbes reported.

It indicates that Surface Phone would be able to handle multitasking jobs seamlessly. Continuum, a feature that allows users to connect their Windows 10 Mobile powered phones to a display to use it as a full-fledged PC, is said to be the major feature of the upcoming Surface Phone variants.

The rumor mill has claimed that the Microsoft may release up to three editions of Surface Phone next year. The three models would be aimed towards different market segments such as general consumer, enterprise and smartphone enthusiasts, Windows Central reported.

Microsoft has been rumored to be working on Surface branded phones since 2012. The smartphone was expected at the start of this year and rumors have also claimed that it would be arriving with Snapdragon 820 chipset later this year. However, fresh speculations indicate that Microsoft may have pushed its arrival to some point next year.

In the coming year, Microsoft is expected to work with multiple OEM partners like Alcatel and BLU to release various Windows 10 Mobile powered smartphones in the market. However, its flagship phones are expected to be launched under its Surface brand name.

Qualcomm is still to launch the Snapdragon 830 chipset and reveal its features. Also, Microsoft has not confirmed on releasing a Surface Phone in 2017. Hence, the rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt.
