Tesla Motors will start taking online orders for its new Model 3 electric vehicle (EV) one hour earlier than originally scheduled. Green car fans can place an order for the new Tesla car at 7:30 p.m. PT or 10:30 p.m. ET to help ensure that Tesla's servers do not overload. Since this morning on March 31, Thursday automobile shoppers have been able to preorder a Model 3 unit by making a $1,000 deposit, which has caused long lines at Tesla dealerships around the world.

Elon Musk's company will live-stream the Model 3 official announcement at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET from the company's design studio in Hawthorne, California, according to VentureBeat. Big demand could cause Tesla's website to get bogged down.

Musk has announced that there will be two events for Tesla's new car. The Model 3 will have a starting price of $35,000, could be $7,500 cheaper after United States tax credits, and might have many upgrade options.

It is unknown what the car will look like. However, it could be close to the size of a BMW 3 Series or Audi A4. It certainly will be smaller than the Model X SUV crossover and could be one-fifth smaller than the Model S.

The EV's range could be between 200 and 225 miles, and even over 300 miles with an upgrade.

Like other Tesla cars the Model 3 will be relatively fast. It could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in four seconds.

Meanwhile, the new Tesla model will likely not be a fully autonomous vehicle (AV). However, it could include some self-driving features.

Tesla CEO Musk also tweeted that customers will be limited to buying two Model 3 cars, according to The Verge. Current Tesla owners, and Tesla and SpaceX employees will get the first shipped units. The car is expected to be released in late 2017.

In related news Volkswagen has recalled thousands of e-Golf EVs in the United States and revealed the vehicles have a software glitch that could cause the green cars to shut down while in use. The announcement follows recent e-car recalls by Nissan and Renault.
