Minecraft VR for mobile devices is up and running, but from what we're hearing, the game is not working good enough right now.

Surprise, surprise, Minecraft for mobile devices will support VR in the future, and there's already a playable version of the game at GDC. From what we can tell, the game isn't the best in VR, but we're hoping for a big change before the release date comes around.

First, we should stress that this game has been reworked to fit in the mobile VR landscape. It is being built with the Samsung Gear VR in mind, and we're sure it should work on other mobile devices, no problem.

When it comes down to the game on PC, we understand that Microsoft is working on a version for the Oculus Rift, so it should be interesting to see how that turns out when it is ready.

According to TechCrunch, the game is not a great experience as it stands right now, and that the Gear VR is probably the not the best device to use should a person be interested in playing Minecrat in VR.

"Gameplay takes place in full VR and cinema modes and requires an external bluetooth gamepad, which does give the mobile headset a substantially beefy gaming feel. I will say that Gear VR is probably not a good platform on which to start playing Minecraft if you're not used to the way the game operates," according to TechCrunch.

The publication went on to add that the way the developers added health menus among other things, is quite lazy, and that's bothersome. Apparently, it is difficult to read the information if the user doesn't have the headset perfectly positioned on his or her face.

It is quite surprising to see this bad early review of Minecraft in the VR space. What the developers need to do is completely rework the game rather than port it into a VR experience. Clearly it is not working, but who knows, it could with improvements.

Until then, Minecraft players might have to hold out their hopes for Microsoft to come good with its VR version of Minecraft for the PC. Interestingly enough, this version could also be ported to the PlayStation 4, ultimately making the Xbox One version the odd one out.
