Intel has never stopped setting the bar high when it comes to the latest and fastest innovation. It was summer 2015 when Ultra-Fast Optane SSD was initially announced, wherein Intel said that they will be creating a new class of memory known as the major breakthrough in memory process technology.

The company was able to produce a highly monstrous memory, and was able to keep their word via a breakthrough called 3D Xpoint (or crosspoint). This amazingly designed memory is packed with one thousand times faster, 10 times denser and far more durable than the NAND Flash storage and the DRAM chips that are being used in computers nowadays. But Intel's latest creation packed with astonishingly gigantic surprise; it would not be surprising if Apple is one of the firsts to grab this opportunity.

Knowing how Apple can adopt to the latest trend immediately, Intel's camp may be expecting Apple's first move in teaming up with the Optane SSD technology. 3D Xpoint is said to be perfectly compatible with Macbooks because of the NVMe technology that Apple's Macbooks are already using. NVMe is also an SSD protocol that gives enhanced latency and performance compared to the outmoded AHCI protocol, according to MacRumors.

Since Apple's Macbooks are already running the NVMe, adding Optane SSD to its existing system will definitely give its users blazingly fast speed boost. Apple was one of the firsts who is able to use Thunderbolt from Intel and was also among the vendors who primarily put into operation the latest laptop technologies. With Intel's latest technology, Apple may again take the risk in adding Optane SSDs on their future release Macbooks.

There are a number of Windows laptops that are already using NVMe storage but more often than not tied to the slower SATA interface. Desktop users and fanatics are one of the firsts to take advantage of the latest technologies especially gamers who use their PC often. More likely these people will eventually upgrade their devices to Optane for better and faster experience.

Intel's Skylake architecture is where the Optane SSDs will be based. A possibility that Optane may set a new trend in server designs and application settings and a chance for servers to have more slots for SAP HANA and 3D Xpoint (in-memory applications) could happen in the future, added by PCWorld.
