New 2017 Mercedes AMG E43 Goes From Zero To 63MPH In 4.6 Seconds

German auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the latest E-Class sedan to get an AMG high-performance badge. The aptly named Mercedes AMG E43 4Matic is a luxury sedan that packs a 401 horsepower engine that can propel the car from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds.

Contrary to what most car enthusiasts expect, the new Mercedes AMG E43 does not have a V8 engine. Instead, Mercedes-Benz opted to use the 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine with two new larger turbo and a completely overhauled software.

The result of the experiment is an engine that has 34 more horsepower and a staggering 384 pound-foot worth of torque from 2,500 rpm. On the other hand, the AMG E43 only has a limited top speed of 155 miles per hour.

To complement the powerful engine, Mercedes-Benz throw in a 9-speed 9G-Tronic transmission that has faster shifting times and a double-declutching feature integrated in the Sport and Sport Plus modes. There is also paddle shifters which for some reason causes the car to stop automatically upshifting once it hits the limiter, according to Slash Gear.

In terms of external design, the Mercedes AMG E43 has three vast air intakes while the car's grill now sports a diamond pattern paired with chromed pins. It also has a 19-inch AMG five spoke light alloy wheels that are painted in high-gloss black while at the rear it two quad-flow tailpipes that are fully plated with chrome. There is also the diffusor which has some silver chrome trimmings.

Inside the new Mercedes AMG E43 is an Artico sports seats with man-made leather and the Dinamica microfiber. Mercedes-Benz is offering an option with nappa leather coupled with red top-stitching and matching trim on the doors and dashboard. There is also an option for red seatbelts.

The flat-bottom sports steering wheel comes in black nappa with red stitching which is the standard design. On the dashboard are the AMG instruments and a 4.5-inch embedded display.

According to Business Insider, the Mercedes AMG E43 is expected to debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show later this month. Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce that official price of the car which is expected to hit showrooms in the United States on June 20.
