Unfortunately enough, the sixth installment of the game might not be released in the near future. It is expected to be released in 2019, not before that. There are a lot of factors causing the delay of the game.

One of the main factors is the departure of Leslie Benzies, who was the lead developer of the game series. He quit the company this month and his departure will definitely affect the release of the sixth installment of "Grand Theft Auto," according to Neuro Gadget.

There is also a rumor which says that Leslie's earlier absence in 2013 might be the reason that the downloadable content for "Grand Theft Auto 5" was delayed.  Game Developer Company Rock Star Studios is yet to make a statement about "Grand Theft Auto 6." There are a few rumors about the much awaited installment, but until official announcements are made, nothing can be said for sure.

The official website for "Grand Theft Auto 6" states that Benzies revealed in a press conference in 2013 that the company is still not sure about what the next game will be, but that they were working on some ideas. According to NB44, a female lead character may also be seen in the upcoming game.

According to this site, the game is also speculated to be released in October 2018. There are a few rumors which state that the game might be released as early as 2017. However, this information is debunked now as most of the sources seem to point to a 2019 release for "Grand Theft Auto 6."

Additionally, Rock Star North, which is a subsidiary of Rock Star Studios, said that they are currently working on the "Red Dead Redemption 2" game. Hence, this is why they need more time to develop "Grand Theft Auto 6."
