Facebook has been testing multiple account management for its Messenger app for some time now, but it was not official. However, that has changed in the most recent update for Android devices.

Going forward, Android device owners who use Facebook Messenger will be able to switch to a different account whenever they please. This feature is great for folks who share a smartphone with someone else, mainly children.

We understand that users can add a new account by venturing to the settings section, and guess what? You do not have to be on Facebook to sign in, so that's a big plus right there. Furthermore, if you're concerned about family and friends reading your messages, worry not because there is a safeguard for that.

Whenever you switch accounts, the app will ask for your password. Users can either set the app to ask for a password each time, or just remember and never ask again. We should also point out that messages sent to a different account will pop-up in the notification area, but the message will be private until the owner logs in.

This could be a useful feature for the family, or for spouses who use the same smartphone. Whatever the case, this is a big deal and we'd love to see the feature implemented in iOS, Windows Phone and Windows 10. The desktop version of Facebook doesn't need this, however.

To get the new app, head over to the Google Play store and download it for your Android device, it's free.

Facebook has been doing a lot of work in the past couple of days. The company recently added two-factor authentication to Instagram, a move that boosts security. It has been a long-awaited feature, one that should make for some happy users.

The social network has also come out in support of Apple when it comes down to encryption. The iPhone factory has come under attack from the FBI due to its unwillingness to unlock a smartphone belonging to an alleged murderer of 14 people.  A member of Facebook's board says, "I have always admired Tim Cook for his stance on privacy and Apple's efforts to protect user data", according to the NYSE Post.
