New updates for "Overwatch" will feature the Anniversary event available this week and mod supports coming soon.

Blizzard Entertainment officially launched "Overwatch's" anniversary event this week as gamers will enjoy three new maps, loot boxes, character skins, emotes and many more.

A launch trailer for "Overwath" has been streamed online featuring the new map locations Castillo, Black Forest and Necropolis. Players will recognize the Black Forest map from "The Last Bastion" animated short, while Necropolis is a nighttime map set outside the Temple of Anubis, which promises to include a couple of references to an interaction between Soldier: 76 and Ana. Finally, the Castillo is a map based in a fort overlooking the Dorado map and there are several Easter egg references for Sombra in the game.

Legendary skins for Soldier: 76, Zarya, Tracer, Symmetra, Genji, Hanzo, D.Va, Mei, Lucio, Bastion and Pharah are also revealed. New loot boxes like character icons, spray designs and even dance emotes for each character are available in the "Overwatch" Anniversary event.

Gaming fans can also expect a few tweaks to the Arcade setup, with Elimination's sudden death mechanic changed to prevent players with self-healing. In the updated version of the mode, a 30 second countdown will eventually be triggered once there is only a couple of players left alive, leading up to a capture point that must be claimed to win the round.

There is also a couple of new Elimination variants such as Limited Duel, which is a new 1vs1 mode and both players are offered the same random selection of three heroes to choose from. Lockout Elimination is a 3vs3 mode that locks out the winning team's heroes at the end of each round, Eurogamer reported.

Meanwhile, its seems that "Overwatch" will likely get gaming mods very soon.

Game director Jeff Kaplan revealed his intentions for the mods during a Q&A moderators in the game's subreddit and stated that Blizzard loves the concept of making mods in the game and has an open mind about it.

However, it could be a while until that happens as Kaplan points to the amount of time for them to get all of their systems online, and the infrastructure, set up so that somebody could create something, modify it, have their own branch, check it in, and test it.

As a result, Blizzard could be “pretty far" from making mods and it could still take the company years to introduce "Overwatch" mod support for players. Especially as Kaplan would rather give players “hardcore tools” geared to professional or semi-professional modders than tools that everyone can use.

Mod support in "Overwatch" could also give players plenty to do even when no official events or special game modes are being offered, Gamerant reported.

"Overwatch" is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
