Windows 10 S it the latest version of Windows 10 that has been introduced to run on budget PCs. It is aimed towards the educational sector. The Redmond giant has also introduced a new Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S onboard.

The Windows 10 S, the new streamlined version of Windows 10 is designed to run on computers with lowered hardware specs.  The installation file size of the Windows 10 S operating system is small. It only takes 15 seconds to reach the login screen which indicates that it is faster than Windows 10 Pro.

It comes with preconfigured settings which means it can easily installed on a PC school by simply connecting to the USB port. A major difference between the Windows 10 S and Windows 10 Pro is that the former only supports installation of apps available from Windows Store. It means that developers will have to build apps so that the apps can be made available on Windows Store.

The new Windows 10 S education PCs will be available with a pricing of $189 from this summer. It is expected to come with free subscriptions such as Microsoft Office 365 for Education with Microsoft Teams as well as Minecraft: Education Edition.  Schools that are presently using PCs with Windows 10 Pro can receive their edition of Windows 10 S for free, GSM Arena reported.

At the launch event of Windows 10, Microsoft has also introduced a true laptop called Surface Laptop. It features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display that carries support for touch as well as stylus. It supports a resolution of 2,256 x 1,504 pixels resolution, MS Power User reported.

The Surface Laptop will be available in color choices such as Platinum, Graphite Gold, Cobalt Blue and Burgundy. It promises a battery life of 14. hours with continuous usage of Netflix. According to Panos Panay, the chief of Surface lineup claims that the Surface Laptop is lighter and faster than MacBook Pro. It is preloaded with Windows 10 S operating system. It is packed with ports like USB 3.0 port and a mini DisplayPort.

The Surface Laptop with Intel Core i7 (7200U), 4 GB of memory and 128 GB SSD is priced a $999. Its other variant with Intel Core i7, 16 GB of memory and 512 GB SDD is priced at $2,199.
