Pokemon Yellow, otherwise known as Nintendo's Special Pikachu Edition, is running on iOS.

After the "Pokemon Go" fever invaded smartphones and other mobile devices, original "Pokemon Yellow" Game Boy video game is expected to captivate gamers worldwide. Nintendo's Special Pikachu Edition now has an unsanctioned prototype playable in an Apple Watch.

Old school fever is still far from being over this year, following the re-release of Nokia 3310, Nintendo's Game Boy video game has also received a significant update. iOS developer Gabriel O'Flaherty-Chan has developed a "Pokemon Yellow" prototype for Apple Watch, which he named Giovannie in favor of his favorite villain in the Yellow version of the game.

The works of O'Flaherty-Chan was mainly anchored on the existing Game Boy Color emulator, Gambatte, according to Express. Through Gambatte, the iOS app developer built the Apple Watch version of the said game equipped with on-screen functionalities like that of the iconic A, B, Start and Select buttons.

As of the moment, the prototype is "surprisingly usable" despite great challenges being faced by the developer. The said developmental challenges did not waiver O'Flaherty-Chan to repay the community.

"One of the big challenges was to find the right balance between frame rate and performance. As you can see, it's a bit sluggish and unresponsive, but as a prototype, I think it answers the question of is this possible? Ironically, I've only ever played the game on an emulator, as growing up I didn't have access to the real deal. In a way, I feel this is my way of giving back to the community," Game Spot quoted O'Flaherty-Chan as saying.

The desire of the app developer may not easily flourish with Nintendo and Niantic still no giving their green light with the prototype. It can be remembered that Nintendo's legal team shut down two fan-made "Pokemon" games for PC platform last year. The Same thing might happen to the prototype, especially if both Niantic and Nintendo see the game as a threat to the popularity of "Pokemon Go."
