Apple's Project Titan, the company's secretive team believed to be working on an electric car, is currently facing serious dilemma as some of the tech giant's top executives expressed dismay with the team's progress.

Several reports claim that Apple placed a hiring freeze on the team. The Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to comment on the issue, but several rumors and speculations claim that Project Titan is facing major problems not only in its development progress but also in terms of personnel changes.

Following a post-holiday progress review conducted by Apple design chief Jony Ive, the tech giant instituted the hiring freeze decision. It is believed that Ive was not satisfied with the direction the team is taking.

The report about Apple's hiring freeze came in several days after long time Apple engineer and head of Project Titan Steve Zadesky publicized his decision to leave the company. Although there are no clear indications that Zadesky's decision to leave Apple has something to do with staff restrictions, rumors believe otherwise.

Zadesky cited "personal reasons" for his departure from Apple.

Pressure on the team working for Project Titan has been exponential as Apple recently established an ambitious schedule for its car project. Apple claims that it should be able to complete the project's final engineering phase by 2019.

In September 2015, several reports reveal that Apple was faced to partner with established car maker in order to meet its schedule as the tech giant was facing serious manufacturing issues during that time. According to CNBC, the Cupertino-based tech company was reportedly in negotiations with German automaker BMW in its hope to incorporate some of BMW's electric i3 model technologies on its own car project.

Some analysts estimate that at least 1,000 people are working on Apple's Project Titan. Despite several rumors and reports about Project Titan, Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge its existence. Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that Apple's plan to create its own car is an "open secret."

In an interview with BBC, Musk said, "It's pretty hard to hide something if you hire over a thousand engineers to do it."
