"Mighty No. 9" was initially scheduled for a release in spring 2015, a date which was pushed to mid-September 2015, and was pushed back some more to February 2016. Following the latest announcement, Comcept said that the game will not be ready until spring 2016.

Comcept announced the delay on Jan. 25, citing some critical issues affecting the network game's network or multiplayer modes.

In an update posted on the official "Mighty No. 9" Kickstarter page, Comcept founder Keiji Inafune said, "In preparation for the February release of Mighty No. 9 we have been working hard with our partners to resolve any network issues and porting work necessary to publish Mighty No. 9 on the various platforms. However, the issues relating to the network modes were more critical than expected, and it has become apparent that we will need to delay the game from its February 9th release date."

"Mighty No. 9" is expected to be released in a number of different gaming platforms. Fixing a networking problem and making it work on all these platforms is a hard and tedious job.

Moreover, Comcept is using an outdated gaming engine that is no longer updated. This means that any changes needed to be done for the game's matchmaking and online codes have to be done manually which is a very time consuming effort.

"Mighty No. 9" will feature a classic Japanese side-scrolling, action-packed gameplay. The team behind the game's current development phase is all veterans in their specific field including some who have worked for the famed "Mega Man" franchise. The game merges certain aspects of 8-bit and 16-bit gaming classics along with some input from fans, according to PC Magazine.

When "Mighty No. 9" launched its Kickstarter campaign, more than 67,000 backers managed to pool together more than $3.8 million in order to jumpstart the development of the game.
