A non-Google Pixel smartphone has surfaced in rumors indicating that it may be a Google Nexus 2017 smartphone.

Android Police had recently reported that the upcoming Pixel 2 smartphone is codenamed as Walleye and the larger Pixel XL 2 phone has a codename of Muskie. However, according to Droid-Life, there is another Google phone under the wraps that is codenamed as Taimen. Taimen is the largest salmonid in the world which indicates that it may arrive with a larger form factor.

There are no details available on the specifications of Taimen, but rumors have it that it would be featuring a large-sized display that will be larger than the display of the upcoming Google Pixel XL 2 smartphone.

The Motorola Nexus 6 from 2014 came with a 6-inch display. It was codenamed as Shamu. It did not receive good reception from the audience as it carried expensive price tag and a mammoth display. In 2015, the Huawei Nexus 6P was launched with a smaller 5.7-inch display.

Source have revealed that "Taimen" that is rumored as a large device is not a tablet, but a device that is different from Walleye and Muskie smartphones. This indicates that Taimen may not be a part of the Google Pixel family.

Android chief Hiroshi Lockheimer had said in an interview in October 2016 that, "I don't want to close a door completely, but there is no plan right now to do more Nexus devices." This was said after the official launch of Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Since the company has not officially discontinuation of Nexus lineup, it is likely that it may be a Google Nexus 2017 smartphone.

Hence, the appearance of Taimen hints the revival of Nexus series. Just as Galaxy S8 and LG phones have arrived larger screen and slimmer bezels, it likely that the mysterious Google phone may also sport a large-sized display with thinner bezels.
