A leakster has revealed that Google is working on a low budget phone. It is speculated to launch as Google Nexus 2017, claims the rumor mill.

In January 2017, Google 9to5 had reported that a leakster had revealed Google is testing some prototypes of low budge phone dubbed as "Pixel 2B." However, in an interview with AndroidPit, the Senior VP of Hardware with Google, Rick Osterloh confirmed that Pixel 2017 phones will "stay premium" and there won't be cheaper phones selling under its Pixel brand.

Now, the same leakster has surfaced with newer information that states the search engine is indeed working on a lower-priced smartphone. However, it will not be available with Pixel branding. It will be launched with a sole purpose of providing Google experience to emerging markets.

He has speculated that it may be an Android One smartphone. It will be coming with modest hardware specifications. Since the name of the device is not confirmed yet, speculations are also hinting that it may be a Nexus 2017 phone. The team working on Pixel 2 is rumored to be working on the alleged budget phone.

Google had released Nexus series phones starting from 2010 by partnering with various smartphone manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, LG and Motorola. These phones were sold with name of the manufacturer along with Nexus branding. For example, HTC Nexus One, Motorola Nexus 6, LG Nexus 5X and so on. However, last year's Pixel series smartphones introduced last year are sold as devices made by Google event though they are manufactured by HTC.

When Pixel series were launched, Android chief Hiroshi Lockheimer had said "I don't want to close a door completely, but there is no plan right now to do more Nexus devices." However, now that the news about a cheaper phone from Google has surfaced, rumors of a Nexus 2017 phone have started swirling. As far as Pixel 2 release date is concerned, it is expected to launch in October this year.
