Leaked: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 to Have In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi teased the public last month with an announcement of a bezel-less Mi Mix 2. Now leaked details online revealed that the device would also sport a fingerprint scanner embedded inside its display.

Citing a Chinese insider, Gizmo China said that the Mi Mix 2 would have "a number of innovative features" including the in-display technology. Xiaomi will be the pioneer in deploying the said technology, The presence of a fingerprint sensor also cancels the need for an iris scanner, meaning the handset will be smaller in size. This is line with the company's goal to achieve a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun revealed on Weibo that the company is collaborating with Philippe Stark to design the latest generation of Mi Mix. Other than the in-display scanner, the smartphone is also expected to boast of a curved 6.4-inch IPS LCD that is flat. Its front camera is rumored to have a LED flash feature while its operating system is the MIUI 9-based Android 7.0 Nougat,

The first Xiaomi Mi Mix is powered by Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM for the Pro version. It has 128GB and 256GB of internal memory variants with a five megapixels front and 16 megapixels rear camera.

Meanwhile, Chinese fingerprint maker Goodix unveiled a similar fingerprint technology during the Mobile World Congress 2017. On the other hand, Apple iPhone 8 is said to have a Touch ID button on the screen while Samsung is expected to have an in-display iris sensor.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is likely to arrive in the market in the second half of 2017.
