‘Pokemon GO’ Allows Trading Locally: International Trading May Happen But Shouldn’t ‘Kill’ the Game, Though it’s Slowly ‘Dying’ Already

A new feature in 'Pokemon GO' will be coming soon - trading Pokemon within a local area range. However, the dreams of having to trade with other players internationally or on extended distances will be prohibited for now so as not to "kill" the game, but the game is slowly "dying" anyway.

Niantic Labs may allow international trading soon, but should first consider the fact that a certain balance should be imposed because if not, players will most likely engage in trading instead of doing the catching and collecting themselves, thus killing the game in a short period of time. "Pokemon GO" is a game where players need to go out and "catch 'em all."

Pokemon trading has been among the top in players' wish list to be added into the game, and Niantic Labs granted the wish to a limited extent. The trading will not involve the Internet. During the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Tatsuo Nomura, Senior Product Manager of Niantic tells about how the developers have been looking on certain angles how to incorporate the trading features in "Pokemon GO."

So the players may trade within a certain vicinity. Excess Pokemon may be traded with a peer or anyone near you. Though many expressed their disappointment with this very "limited" trading feature, Niantic Labs and Nomura believes that this will encourage players to connect and make friends with the local community players - one of the purposes of "Pokemon GO" by the time of its development.

Nomura also promise that trading may also allow local players to exchange exciting items aside from Pokemon alone. The trading feature, based on Nomura's words, will be available in a few months from now. An official announcement will be launched regarding the game update. Still, among the challenges Niantic has to face is that "Pokemon GO" is slowly dying away. Despite the continuous roll-out of new features and special events - and with the release of Gen 2 Pokemon - it seems that the player engagement has been steadily going down because of the failed expectations regarding the game experience.
