The Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL were released in October 2016. Since Google is expected to follow "an annual rhythm" for Pixel 2 phones this year, it is speculated that the Google Pixel 2 release date will be set in October this year.

The Google Pixel's main camera of 12.3-megapixel has best DxOMark rating ever of 89 for a mobile device. In January, 9 to 5 Google reported that the Google Pixel 2 is in works and it is expected to bring improvements to the camera that has been already received rave reviews from the critics. The Pixel 2's camera is rumored to come with better photo capturing ability in low light conditions. It will also tag along some new features.

The report also stated that Google Pixel 2 would be coming with a slightly expensive pricing. However, in the AndroidPit interview, Osterloh did comment on the pricing. However, he confirmed that the Google Pixel would be arriving as a premium device.

The previous month's report stated that Google would be releasing "Pixel 2B" to target the developing markets by launching it with a significantly cheaper price in a bid to bring Google phone experience to them. Osterloh has put to rest the rumors about cheaper Pixel phone by saying that the company would not be releasing a cheaper Pixel phone. He added that Google would be letting other smartphone makers to target lower price markets.

The Google Pixel 2 is expected to feature an IP68 rated water and dust resistant chassis. It may either feature the Snapdragon 835 or an upgraded version of it as it releasing in the last quarter of 2017.
