A new app that can transform an Android phone into a PC has been launched. Jide Software, the creator of a Windows-like version of Android for PCs called Remix OS, developed this new app.

Remix OS has gained popularity due to its capability to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop. Jide developed it for Windows PC and Mac. The Android apps of the said OS have the ability to operate on desktop hardware with an interface similar to Windows 7 with its salient features such as a recognizable file manager, taskbar, and the potential to manage apps in windows, ZDNet reported.

The newly released Remix OS on Mobile (ROM), however, can be powered by a smartphone

Microsoft sought to create the same with Windows 10 Continuum, however, it was limited due to the tiny size of the hardware ecosystem of Windows 10 Mobile.

Continuum-like feature Singularity has been integrated into the app to support Remix OS's prime facilities in PC Mode. The app has a feature that one could set use to set it to TV mode when it is connected to a big screen.

"Dock your phone with Remix Singularity into a monitor and experience everything that Remix OS has to offer," Jide said.

David Ko, the co-founder of Jide Software, told The Verge that ROM on a smartphone would be "close to stock Android," while the PC mode can be turned on at the office or home.

Using a keyboard and a mouse, users would get a usual desktop setting to use Android apps, games, and productivity tools.

Ko stressed that the large number of Android users and apps gives Jide an enormous advantage. ROM would be a complimentary app, which means it can be used without charge, according to itbNews.

The company expects to welcome billions of users. The product could help to save on hardware costs. However, it seems likely to appeal to affluent consumers who have a lot of devices, The Verge noted.
