The Samsung Galaxy A series combines good performance, premium feel, and affordability in one phone. The mid-range Galaxy A5 2017 features a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display. 14 nm Exynos SoC and a 3,000 mAh battery. It lasts up to 13 hours of 3G web browsing, 18 hours on Wi-Fi, and 16 hours on 4G LTE. It can last up to two to three days when idle.

According to battery tests, the Samsung Galaxy A5 is better than the Galaxy A5 2016, Galaxy S7, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, Huawei Nova, and Google Pixel at 200-nit brightness. The Galaxy A5 2017 lasted for 11 hours and nine minutes on a single charge while the Galaxy S7 lasted for six hours and 37 minutes. The iPhone 7 lasted for seven hours and 46 minutes while the Google Pixel lasted for seven hours and 45 minutes. The Galaxy A5 2017 also fared best in a recharge time test, reaching 100 percent battery life after only one hour and 31 minutes. The Google Pixel and iPhone 7 charged "depressingly slow."

The Galaxy A5 was spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench last month with the model number SM-A525F which is a Galaxy A5 2017 variant. However, the model number does not match the phone's actual specs. The Galaxy A5 2017 runs on an Exynos 7880 processor with 3 GB of RAM. The device spotted, on the other hand, has an Exynos 7580 processor with 2 GB of RAM. It had an octa-core CPU with 1.6 GHz speed. The phone seen on Geekbench matches a Galaxy A5 2016 model.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 was launched in December 2015 with the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7. In January 2016, it was released in Europe. The Galaxy A5 comes preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop and was updated to Android Marshmallow later on. The phablet features a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. The Galaxy A5 comes with 16 GB of storage, 13 MP rear camera, and 5 MP front snapper. It sports a 2900 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner embedded in the device's Home button.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge may receive the Android 7.0 Nougat by the end of January 2017 while the Galaxy A5 2016 may get it in Q1 of 2017. The Android Nougat will bring new features to devices, fix bugs and issues ,and improve overall performance. It is said to bring a tweaked UI with instant control toggles and space-efficient notifications. It comes with a quick switch and multi-window for excellent multitasking. Android Nougat will also adopt the Vulkan API support which improves gaming and VR quality.
