Changhong H2 Smartphone With SCiO Molecular Sensor to Identify Material’s Molecular Content Announced

The Changhong H2 smartphone with a handheld SCiO molecular sensor has been announced. The Changhong H2 is the latest device set for release.

It is from the Chinese phone manufacturer Changhong. The company teamed up with Consumer Physics to make a phone with the sensor fully integrated and preloaded with apps to analyze different things.

The Changhong H2 has a 6-inch 1080p display. It is powered by an octa-core chipset inside clocked at a speed of 2.0 GHz. It comes with a 4GB of RAM in a 64GB of internal storage but has no mentioned about the expandable storage options.

The Changhong H2 is packed with a 3000 mAh battery on the back. Importantly, it includes the SCiO sensor located on the rear side. This sensor utilizes near-infrared spectroscopy to identify the molecular content of the material.

Using the spectrometer on the Changhong H2, the object is illuminated with a broadband light source. The reflected light is broken into its constituent components using the optical sensor. Then, the created wavelengths are compared to the original emission to create a spectral fingerprint using the SCiO's spectral processing algorithms.

The sensor on the Changhong H2 will measure the quality of the food and also the taste of it virtually before actually eaten it. It is capable of determining the sweetness or how ripe the vegetables and fruits are.

The Changhong H2 can also scan and identify certain brewages and if the medicine is real or fake or for what purpose it can be used. It can measure the body fate (body mass index) and analyze the nutritional value of the food as well.

The Changhong H2 is scheduled to go on sale in June for a price tag of $435 (around 2999 RMB). It will hit China in the first half of this year and the U.S. in late 2017.
