Tech giant Microsoft announced on Monday that the Windows 10 operating system is installed on more than 200 million devices and has been used at least once in the past month. The figure includes installation in personal computers, smartphones, tablets and gaming consoles.

Microsoft lead marketing executive for Windows Yusuf Mehdi posted on the company's official blog, "Windwos 10 adoption is accelerating, with more than 40% of new Windows 10 devices becoming active since Black Friday. In fact, Windows 10 continues to be on the fastest growth trajectory of any version of Windows - ever - outpacing Windows 7 by nearly 140% and Windows 8 by nearly 400%."

Mehdi added that about 11 percent or 22 million of the 200 million active Windows 10 devices are used in enterprises and educational organizations. Windows 10 Education and Windows 10 Enterprise are accountable for this figure as these are the versions of Windows released for business, universities and schools.

In October 2015, Microsoft said that at least 110 million users are already using Windows 10. If the figures are true, the tech giant managed to add at least 90 million users in the past three months.

Some analytics vendors do not support Microsoft's claim about the massive influx of users upgrading to Windows 10. According to Net Applications, of the 1.5 billion computer systems running on the Windows platform, only 164 million runs on Windows 10. The figure does not include smartphones, tablets, and Xbox One consoles.

Another analytics company, StatCounter, claims that Windows 10 has a slightly slower adoption rate when compared to Windows 7. StatCounter released a report showing that on its fifth month after launch, Windows 10 has a usage share of 11.8 percent while Windows 7 has 11. 9 percent.
