Microsoft developed the Surface Pro 4 with a goal of replacing the laptop. In a way, the tablet achieved that as it is compact enough to be used anywhere and powerful just like a laptop. However, its battery was a bit of a downer. Now, Microsoft will launch the new Surface Pro 5 this year, and it is expected to be an upgraded.

There were rumors that the device would be released in October 2016. However, the company launched the Surface Book i7 and Surface Studio instead. If the Surface Pro 5 is to be launched in the first quarter of 2017, it may make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is likely to be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 or the seventh-gen Intel Kaby Lake chipset. It could come pre-installed with Windows 10 Redmond 3. The Kaby Lake processor is said to consist of a 14-nm manufacturing process that provides 40 percent improved performance and cooling technology. The Windows 10 Professional Redstone 2 OS is expected to come with innovative features such as a revamped action center. It is also expected to come with the Microsoft Surface all-in-one desktop.

The Surface Pro 5 is expected to feature a 4k wide screen with 3,840 pixels and would offer only 128 GB of internal storage. The device is expected to come in 21-inch, 24-inch, and 27-inch display variants with PixelSense panel and 16 GB of RAM as well as Surface AIO graphics unit. It could feature the USB Type-C version 3.1 with Thunderbolt. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could also sport a 16 megapixels rear camera and an eight megapixels front snapper. It may support 512 GB to 1 TB of storage SSD. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity will most likely be enhanced as well.

The Surface Pro 5 may also come with an upgraded S Pen with a rechargeable battery capable of wireless charging through a tablet dock. A fingerprint scanner and trackpad are also part of the rumored specs. The tablet could have a price tag of $899 for the base model.
