It is the middle of January and owners of Samsung Galaxy devices are still waiting for the first Android Marshmallow update. The South Korean tech company has yet to release the latest version of the Android operating system on its line of devices despite popular demand.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released by Google back in October 2015. It was subsequently released to several Nexus smartphones and tablets, as well as newly released mobile devices. A couple of weeks after the official release of Android Marshmallow, hardware manufacturers have released their own version of the operating system and the most popular of these is the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

On the other hand, Samsung, labelled by many analysts as the world's biggest Android-based smartphone manufacturer, has yet to roll out neither an Android 6.0 nor Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The South Korean tech company has confirmed, on several occasions, that an update will be released but has yet to stand by its words.

According to GottaBeMobile, several Android Marshmallow updates have recently surfaced on tech websites and blogs. These Marshmallow updates are directed towards Samsung Galaxy devices but all of it are unofficial firmware or custom ROMs.

It is important to note that custom ROMs are not directly supported by Samsung and might void the device's warranty should users decide to install it in their devices.

Custom Android Marshmallow ROMs are currently available for Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Google Nexus 7. Users are advised to take proper precautions before upgrading their devise with a custom ROM and it is highly recommended to back up their files should something untoward will happen.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has already started the beta release of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for selected users. The company sent invites for owners of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Samsung Galaxy S6 and asked them if they are willing to participate in the beta test phase.

Regarding its official release, T-Mobile recently confirmed that three Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update is already on its way. Once T-Mobile released the update, it is expected that rival networks will promptly do the same as well.
