World-renowned video game developer John Romero is once again at the spotlight of the gaming community after he released a new level for "Doom." The latest level will mark as the first level to be released for the game in the last 21 years.

Romero has been actively updating his Twitter account regarding the status of his little project. In tweet posted on Jan. 11, Romero wrote, "Almost finished creating a level I've been working on over the holidays. It's a warm-up."

What really stuck with some dedicated "Doom" fans is the last sentence of Romero's tweet claiming that he is warming up. This fueled speculations that he is working on a new "Doom" project.

While it is not clear what Romero meant with his last statement. Back in 2014 Gamecom, Romero revealed that he is starting his own company together with an unnamed concept artist, according to Digital Trends. He even claims, back then, that he is working on several games. Up to this day, not a single title has been officially launched or released.

Romero's latest "Doom" level called Tech Gone Bad pits players in his own version of the Phobos Anomaly, the final level of Knee-Deep. Romero claims that he spent two weeks to complete the level, working on it during his spare time.

The new "Doom" level can be played in coop, deathmatch and solo mode. The level was created with the use of Doom WAD, a modding tool created by Id Software and was released alongside the "Doom" game was back in the 90's.

A reboot of the "Doom" game is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016. The game is being developed by Id Software and employs the technology of the id Tech 5 game engine. It will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows platforms.

Despite keeping the game's development status under the radar and away from mainstream consciousness, a handful of key information, screenshots and plot details have leaked all over the Internet.

A listing on Amazon France shows that the game will be available on June 30, but this information was not confirmed by Bethesda Softworks which is the game's publisher.
