The US government is reportedly taking steps to acquire V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) technology.

According to The Time, the government will soon order all new automobiles to be equipped with V2V technology.

This technology allows us to communicate with the person who is driving the car next to us so both drivers can share details about speed, sharp turns, and warn about a possible danger.

For quite some time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been working on promoting the safety of the technology and has successfully developed models and presented them around the globe with the purpose of making ''all cars speak the same language'.'

The administration has proposed an initiative that would require standardized V2V on all new lightweight vehicles. It will go through a 90-day public opinion stage before a final decision is made. It is expected that once the order is passed, 50 percent of the cars in the country would get an upgrade in about three years and all brand new cars would come equipped with V2V technology in about five years time.

According to News Dump, one of the biggest advantages of self-driving cars is that it can avoid accidents on American roads as 94 percent of accidents take place because of the mistake of the driver.

The Federal Highway Administration is also working on a technology that will let cars be in touch with infrastructure like traffic lights. This technology will be known as V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure technology).
