Bluetooth 5 has finally arrived to offer a wider range and faster connection speed.

The Bluetooth Interest Group (SIG) said that the evolved technology can now be included in devices globally. Most devices today use Bluetooth 4.2, which was released in 2014.

With this latest technology, users can expect four times wider connectivity and two times faster speed at 2 Mbps. This will allow users to transfer files faster without worrying about loss of connection due to unnecessary movements of devices.

Further, Bluetooth SIG said that the "higher speed enables more responsive, high-performance devices. Increased broadcast message size increases the data sent for improved and more context relevant solutions" making Bluetooth 5 ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices.

The update also keeps the quality of high-quality audio after transfer as it will impose fewer limits and avoid unnecessary cut-outs. Developers also claim that Bluetooth 5 is energy-efficient because of its better connectivity with other devices and thus saves battery life.

Bluetooth SIG also put emphasis on the importance of data security saying that the latest version "adheres to U.S. federal security regulations ensuring that all Bluetooth devices are capable of meeting and exceeding strict government security standards."

Bluetooth is a wireless connection technology invented back in 1994 by Ericsson. It enables devices to share data at an established short range connection. It is used on various devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, gaming consoles, and earphones.

Bluetooth 5 is expected to arrive in the latest gadgets in two to six months. Developers say that the availability of the wireless technology will depend on manufacturers. Future iPhone models are expected to carry the updated standard while the arrival of Bluetooth Audio is anticipated in 2018.
