Tech giant Apple has pulled out the latest WatchOS update after reports that the update has the tendency to brick some Apple Watch models and render them completely useless.

Earlier this week, Apple rolled out the WatchOS version 3.1.1. In just a matter of hours, several users started reporting that the upgrade was faulty. Some users complained that after downloading the update, their Apple Watch's display would show a red exclamation mark which directs them to Apple's Help website, according to Fortune.

The webpage instructs users to restart their smartwatch by pressing and holding the crown and side button for 10 seconds. If the provided fix will not solve the problem, Apple has advised users to contact customer service.

Some users revealed on social media and forums that if the restart does not fix the problem, they are required to bring their smartwatch to an Apple Store and have them shipped so that proper repairs can be carried out.

Following the outburst of customer complaints, Apple decided to pull back the update to make sure that it will no longer affect other users. The most recent stable version of the WatchOS operating system is version 3.1.

It is customary for tech companies like Apple to test updates before rolling it out to its consumer base. However, some bugs can sometimes slip through this rigorous testing process.

In a statement acquired by CNet, Apple said, "A very small number of Apple Watch customers experienced an issue while installing watchOS 3.1.1, so as a precaution we've pulled back the software update. Any customers impacted should contact AppleCare, but no action is required if the update installed successfully."

Apple said it is currently working on a fix to remedy the issue, and that its engineers are also working to determine what caused the problem to prevent it from happening in the future.
