Aston Martin is recreating one of the most iconic cars in the history of motoring. The British car manufacturer recently announced that it would produce a new batch of the Aston Martin DB4 GT.

There is a twist, the new DB4 GT cars will be limited to the track, and only 25 units will be produced. The latter factor will make the car a sought after model, especially for collectors.

The Aston Martin DB4 GT will be based on the road-going DB4 coupe. The new model will feature a handful of new modifications that are track-focus. The new model will feature a shorter wheelbase, and Aston Martin said that it would remove the rear seats as well, probably to save weight.

From 1959 to 1963, Aston Martin only built 75 DB4 GTs, eight of those models were lightweight editions. The 25 new models are all based on that lightweight version of the car.

The new Aston Marin DB4 GTs will be built in the company's Newport Pagnell manufacturing facility, the same facility where the original DB4 GTs were manufactured. Aston Martin said that the facility has been decommissioned for nearly a decade and that the last cars to roll out of the facility are the Vanguish S.

According to Motor Trend, Aston Martin will rely on the mix of modern and old-fashioned car production techniques. The company will use the same tube frame design and aluminum body panels which were used on the original DB4 GTs.

Under the hood, Aston Martin will use the new 3.7-liter straight-six which is tuned to deliver up to 340 horsepower, according to Digital Trends. The new DB4 GTs will sport a four-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Moreover, the new cars will have identification numbers that will stay in the sequence of the last DB4 GTs.

Aston Martin said that the new DB4 GTs would be released in the third quarter of 2017.
