South Korean tech giant Samsung has started releasing the new Android update for its Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone. The update brings important security patches as well as a few tweaks.

According to Android Headlines, Galaxy S7 Edge owners in Australia have started receiving the update. However, the update will only be rolled out to unlocked versions of the phone. For models that are tied to a specific network, the network itself will decide when to roll out the update.

Samsung is yet to officially confirm the update, along with the changes and upgrades that come along with it. So far only the Edge model of the phone has received the update. Samsung is yet to confirm when the standard Galaxy S7 will receive the update.

The update has a firmware version G935FXXU1BPJG. It appears that the updates were only minor, although this remains to be checked once Samsung released the complete changelog.

Earlier this week, Samsung pointed out some vulnerabilities that the company plans to patch with its upcoming update. Samsung is yet to confirm the when the company plans to roll out the update to specific regions. Some tech analysts say that now that the update has been spotted in Australia, it will only be a matter of days before it hits other major regions.

According to GSM Arena, it is highly advisable to check if the update is already ready through Software Update and manually download it since some users say that they received no notification about the new update. It is important to note that phones must have at least 50 percent of battery life remaining, or that they are plugged into an outlet, before downloading the update.

Some tech analysts have noted that Samsung will not release the update simultaneously in all regions as it might trigger an overload of requests on its servers and eventually crash them.
