Google has been releasing its Android security update on a regular basis. In December, the company released security update along with Android Marshmallow 6.0.0 update. This year, Google started pushing out its security updates through Nexus devices.

The January edition of Nexus security bulletin contained list of certain vulnerabilities that could hinder working of existing system. The vulnerability is prone to attack mail, browser, process media files and even MMS; however, no recent complaints have been raised from any users of Nexus handsets.

The list of vulnerabilities, as pointed out by Google, includes the elevation of privilege vulnerability in misc-sd driver, trustzone, imagination technologies driver and most importantly vulnerabilities in kernel. The company spokesperson also clarified that partners were already notified regarding the presence of such vulnerabilities on earlier issues of magazine.

Google has also clarified that they will be releasing an Android Open Source Project to tackle the attack of vulnerabilities. Unlike the previous update released in December, the January security update is completely focused towards fixing issues and security threats.

Google Android developers' website also contains factory images for the range of devices included in the Nexus category. Both the updates that are OTA and factory images are available only for devices that employ and run on Android Marshmallow 6.0 operating system. Nexus handsets such as Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will receive OTA updates and will be build using MMB29P. Alternately, Nexus 5 and Nexus 9 that uses Wi-Fi alone will receive OTA updates and will be build on MMB29S.

On the other hand, the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi model will be build on MMB29O and will employ OTA updates. The Nexus 6 will be use MMB29S build. The Nexus player will receive an OTA security update build using MMB29T.
