Nintendo's newest game console, the Switch, is set to be released early next year and there is a lot riding on this release. There is no official price yet but it is expected that Nintendo would release the device as early as January 2017. The Nintendo Switch will replace the company's Wii U console.

The Switch continues the tradition of uniqueness from the Japanese company because it is a home console with a designated controller. However, once you slide the two controller sides from the main unit to the main Switch unit, it becomes a portable gaming device. There are rumors that these controller sides can be used individually if you prop up the device, slide out the controllers and play. This setup can even be used to for multiplayer games.

It also looks like that the Nintendo Switch will be using game cartridges that look similar to the ones used for the 3DS device. Unlike the troubled Wii U, the Switch has garnered the support of major third party developers. Some games were teased during the reveal trailer, such as Skyrim, and NBA 2K17. It is unclear how much storage each cartridge will have, but it will be a challenge for third party game developers to fit 50GB of games into cartridges for the Switch.

With all these, the Nintendo Switch looks poised to make a big splash in the gaming industry. It will all come down to pricing. The device is rumored to be around $250 which would make it very competitive against other consoles.
