Amazon is eyeing drones to locate parked cars and missing children.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) said that the device would carry a software with the ability to understand spoken commands from users.

There is a possibility that the company will incorporate its artificial personal assistant technology called Alexa to its drones.

The aerial vehicle will carry a camera and microphone to help it perform tasks including searching for missing children through face identification or scanning the barcode of clothes. This is expected to be helpful in search and rescue operations involving ships, sailors, and airliners.

The AI-powered drone is also designed to recognize people trapped in burning facilities or aid cops in following suspects on the road by cutting off the runner.

A vehicle in a car park can also be easily located with the device. Meanwhile, it will also contribute to the entertainment industry by replacing helmet cameras during stunts recording.

Amazon described the device as a user assistant that is portable and convenient to carry as it can be placed inside a pocket or bag. The company claims that the drone can also serve as a bodyguard.

The USPTO explained that "in situations in which a user feels uncomfortable or in danger, such as walking down a city street at night, the UAV may act as a deterrent to potential attackers, provide peace of mind, and, worst case scenario, document the crime for police."

Amazon has been conducting studies using drones in different activities. The company has several patents including the use of tall buildings and lampposts as docking stations for recharging of the UAV.
