Twitter has dismissed a new VR project manager that was hired recently.

Twitter has fired Greg Gopman weeks after hiring him due to his rant about San Francisco's homeless population.

Twitter hired Greg Gopman to work on the company's emerging virtual reality (VR) initiatives. The company announced earlier that it is planning to add the native 360-degree video integration and live streaming, and Gopman seemed like the perfect candidate to execute those strategies. But after Techcrunch revealed some belligerent remarks made by Gopman about the homeless population in San Francisco in 2013, the company decided to let him go.

Gopman posted a Facebook status where he said "Anddd I'm fired. Thanks TechCrunch."

Twitter is yet to comment on Gopman's dismissal, and if he was fired because of his rant.

If indeed Gopman was fired for his statement, critics say that the incident could put Twitter in the spotlight as the company is being questioned about the process of screening potential employees.

Given that Twitter has been dealing with a lot of troll issues, it is somewhat risky to hire someone whose past opinions somehow advocate for social media negativity.

Aside from the challenges the company is facing with trolls, Twitter is also lagging behind in its VR efforts. The company remains stagnant while Facebook has already introduced a new 360 video and audio technologies.

Twitter is yet to provide updates regarding its VR initiatives. Techcrunch reported that the company is focusing on trying to address the issue of trolling and harassment on its platform.
