The release of the new MacBook has long been anticipated by users after Apple released the MacOS Sierra last month. The Sierra functions as an additional support for Apple's Siri voice assistant and can copy and paste between MacOS and iOS devices.

In fact, the new update marks the first major upgrade of the MacBook after four years. Aside from a slimmer design, a new OLED-style touch key strip will replace the standard function keys on top of the Qwerty Keyboard. It also borrows the iPhone's touch ID fingerprint reader.

While Apple essentially relies on its iPhone sales, the Mac line remains a major component of its business. In fact, it is the second largest source of Apple sales making up 11 percent of the company's revenue in the 2015 fiscal year.

The delay of the updates had been predicted by many analysts as worldwide shipments of Macs dropped to about 13 percent during the third quarter. The company has also suffered a big drop in its market share, following the decline of sales in the PC industry.

Aside from Apple's anticipated event on Thursday, the company is also be preparing for its earnings report.
