Google is set to roll out a new update for its Chrome browser on December 6. The update is expected to make the app highly economical on memory consumption. The update will boost the performance of the browser, making it faster.

The Chrome browser is likely to now use a new JavaScript engine which has substantially lower memory requirements.

Along with its superior performance, Chrome is known for being a memory hog. The browser was found to be more resource hungry on Mac computers. The latest update will eliminate these issues, making Chrome more suitable for the Mac platform. The new update will be rolled out to public on December 6. However, Google's beta channel may offer earlier access to people who are willing to try it out before the official release.

According to a test conducted by CNET, Chrome 55 update reduced the use of zone memory by 40 percent, while heap memory usage went down by 50 percent. While the real-world performance is going to be different from test performance, this provides an approximate benchmark. The change will be more visible on devices which have low RAM.

Google recently updated Chrome for Android as well. The browser was tweaked to make browsing faster. It also made downloads easier on slow networks. Additionally, Google introduced Data Saver feature which uses compression to optimize data usage.
