Activision Reveals Innovative Skylanders SWAP Force at Toy Fair Event at NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City.

Skylanders Imaginators is offering its players the chance to custom-create their in-game character, and also take it into the real world: by turning it into a 3D-printed toy, printing it on a card or a shirt.

Skylanders Imaginators, the newest addition to the toys-to-life Skylanders franchise created by Toys for Bob, enables players to customize their 'Imaginator,' or in-game character. Kotaku reported that players get to do this using a generic creation crystal toy.

Creation crystals have their own element: fire, water, air, life, light, dark, undeath, tech, earth, or magic. After determining a character's element, players then choose a combat class from ten available classes: Brawler, Smasher, Sorcerer, Knight, Quickshot, Bowslinger, Ninja, Sentinel, Bazooker, and Swashbuckler.

According to Polygon, the customization options are so varied the developers described it unlimited. Although the number of possible parts such as heads, arms, and bodies are not limitless, players can have them in any color that they want - making the number of possible combinations more "than there are stars in the known universe," said Paul Reiche, CEO of Toys for Bob.

After players finalize the Imaginator's look, they then get to choose its personality, voice, and catchphrase using a combination of pre-recorded words.

Using the Skylanders Creator app, players can transfer their character data into their smartphone or tablet to be able to have the Imaginators physically rendered.

First, there is the 3D-printed option. For $49.99, 3D Printing company Shapeways will utilize character data to make a 3D-printed version of it. The finished product comes enclosed in a protective dome, which probably means its to be displayed and not to be played with.

Second, there is the Imaginator trading card for $14.99. It comes designed with the customized Imaginator. Putting either the 3D-printed toy or the card will allow the user to play with the customized Skylander character in-game. Although upgrades and other modifications can be done in-game, the model and card remain the same.

Lastly, there is the $25 Imaginator-designed t-shirt, which is good for bragging rights.

Skylanders Imaginators and the Skylanders Creator app will be available in North America on October 16, and will be sold in different editions: the Starter Pack for $75, the Dark Edition for $100, and the Crash Bandicoot pack (for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4) for $100.
