Health insurance company Aetna is currently working with tech company Apple to let its employees purchase the Apple Watch at a significantly discounted price.

CNET reported that Aetna, a major health company providing health insurance to over 23 million people in the U.S., is currently working on making the Apple Watch an effective tool that will help users contact their doctors, keep track of their prescriptions, and remember to take their medications through using a whole suite of apps exclusive to Apple.

Aetna is looking in making the Apple Watch affordable and more beneficial to many. The company is currently working on an Apple Watch subsidy programs that will allow its employers purchase the Apple Watch series 1 and series 2 for a lower cost.

Engadget noted that Aetna will be subsidizing a significant percentage of the cost of the Watch, and will offer monthly payroll deductions to help cover the remaining cost.

Aetna is planning to give an Apple Watch to 50,000 of its employees. However, the cost of the device after the subsidy remains unclear.

Aside from being used on the Apple Watch, Aetna said that the health apps it develops would be used on the iPhone and iPad as well.

"We are incredibly excited to use iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch to create simple, intuitive and personalized technology solutions that will transform the health and wellness experience for our members," Mark Bertolini, chairman and CEO of Aetna, said in a press release.

For Apple CEO Tim Cook, the plan to use the Apple Watch to help improve the health of many is just thrilling.

"Aetna's new initiatives will be a powerful force toward creating better customer experiences in health care, and we look forward to working with Aetna to make them successful," Cook said
