Microsoft and Google have upped the ante in the war of browsers. Earlier this year, Microsoft trashed Opera and Chrome for their impact on battery performance. Since then both the companies have released a number of updates and videos to indicate that their browser is superior over the other.

In its latest blog post, Microsoft compared the performance of the updated Chrome and Edge browsers on a Surface Book. It used the Edge browser with Anniversary Update. The company used the same Netflix test which it had used earlier. The test runs a streaming video in a loop.

The test showed that Edge lasted 8 hours and 47 minutes, while Chrome ran out of juice in 6 hours and 3 minutes. Opera performed for 7 hours and 8 minutes. Thus, Edge performed 45 performed longer than Chrome and 23 percent longer than Opera.

Microsoft also threw shade at a previous test conducted by Google, where the latest version of Chrome was compared to an older Chrome. The test used Vimeo videos instead of Netflix. Microsoft conducted the same test to show that Edge performed better than Chrome. However, this time, the performance was only better by 11 percent.

The Verge reported that Microsoft plans to release real-world data about the power consumption of different browsers running on Windows 10 machines. The company also simulated real-life activities such as browsing, searching and reading emails for gauging the performance of different browsers.
