Sony has boosted its PlayStation Vue portfolio. The company announced that the Internet TV service would offer Cinemax and HBO "in the coming weeks."

While PlayStation did not provide any specific date for the launch of HBO, it stated that the channel would be up and ready before the premiere of Westworld on October 2.

According to PCMag, both channels will be available for $15 each, in addition to the bundle already subscribed to by the viewers. Alternatively, viewers can choose to get the channels individually, without any requirement of subscribing to a bundle. Sony stated that this is the first time that Cinemax's channel and HBO's live programming would be available on A standalone basis.

Both channels will offer live, linear program through the Vue app. On PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that it is planning to bring HBO Now to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Viewers who subscribe to HBO via PlayStation Vue can access HBO Now on all supported devices, without incurring any additional charges.

PlayStation Vue is a cloud-based TV service, and Sony aims to promote it as a replacement to conventional cable TV. Its main rival Sling TV also offers HBO for $15 a month. However, it does not let viewers purchase HBO on a standalone basis.

PlayStation Vue is currently accessible through various devices including Roku and PlayStation 4. It can also be accessed on a phone or tablet through subscription. The service does not require the viewers to shell out money for an additional set-top box.
