Once again, Google is speeding up its Internet services in Asia. The company has switched to a new undersea cable, enabling multiple gigabit-per-second transfers expanding from the United States to Asia.

Google's new undersea cable bridges facilities in Taiwan and Japan, which connects to the United States via the FASTER Consortium Cable.  It is built away from tsunami zones which protect the network from disaster-related outages. Internet speed is now boosted up to 26Tbps. This allows Google services to load more quickly, reliably and consistently across the region.

According to Google, the connection enables a single person in Taiwan to send a selfie to Japan every 15 seconds. Given the suggested internet speed, the company implies that people could send 138 billion selfies in a day.

Google users should also be able to notice the implications of several services."You may not notice right away, but this new cable should help Google products and services load more quickly across the region," Google stated.

Rajan Anandan, the vice president of Google in Southeast Asia and India, said that the company aims to improve its services, especially those targeting the younger generation. He noted that Southeast Asia has a lot of youths that spend most of their time online, whether it be for business or personal matters.

A recent report co-authored by Google and Singapore wealth fund, Temasek, revealed that Southeast Asia is the fastest growing Internet market on the planet. Statistics also suggest that 3.8 million users are added every month. With the ongoing internet services initiatives, the average Internet speed in Southeast Asia is expected to increase from 3.5megabits per second to 10 megabits per second.
